I asked Reid (Smith) how it feels to be pro. His response, you may ask? “Since I was 12, this has been my birthday wish,” quickly followed by, “I did maybe go a bit too big…” in reference to the showstopper of a party up at Skullcandy HQ for his pro announcement.
But here’s what people need to understand: Reid was born to go big. His passion, his drive, his tenacity—these are all checkpoints on the roadmap that led him to this very moment: becoming a professional snowboarder.
Reid Smith’s unwavering dedication to snowboarding has given him the tools, but that’s not the only element one needs to grasp the title belt. For as long as I’ve known Reid, he’s never quit. He’s never quit being a good snowboarder, a good student, a good worker, a good friend, a good family guy, a good partner, and he’s never quit being a good person. All of these qualities only begin to scratch the surface of why he’s made a major name for himself in this outstanding community we call snowboarding.
I’ve had the pleasure to work and experience life alongside Reid for many years now. I’ve watched him fail, I’ve watched him get by, and I’ve watched him grow. And that growth has led him to succeed. That’s the beauty within this guy. When he’s granted opportunities, he owns them. Reid is a purist.
Purity is defined as “the condition or quality of being pure; freedom from anything that debases, contaminates, pollutes, etc.” From a young age, Reid has made it his goal, his dream, to cross the line of his current limits. He’s handled everything set to debase him with grace and persistence. Anything polluting his tracks, he slowed down, handled his business, and persevered.
For Reid, snowboarding isn’t just a career, it isn’t just a blip; it’s an endless pursuit of creativity, friendship, and self-expression.
And to Reid, I want to say congratulations. You did it, buddy. We’re all so proud of everything you’ve accomplished. But more than that, I’m inspired by the journey you’ve taken. You didn’t just chase a dream—you made it a reality through sheer willpower, passion, and an unshakable belief in yourself and your friends. You are proof that when you follow your passion with everything you’ve got, what once seemed impossible is now yours.
YEAH, REID!
