JUICED—NILS MINDNICH

90’s Country

My music taste seems to have its ebbs and flows, oftentimes affected by the season. Currently, there’s just something about the carefree twang of 90’s country that makes me feel good. Whether it’s “Should of Been a Cowboy” by Toby Kieth or just about anything by Shania Twain.

Circadian Rhythm

I feel like a bunch of people have been getting stoked about valuing their health. I don’t do well when I try to set a bunch of loft goals and boundaries to change the way I live. What’s been working for me is just picking out some simple habits to form that will hopefully become mindless as life goes on. A few of those things are

Sleep:
I try to reduce the amount of light I take in before bed and it helps me fall asleep easier and stay asleep longer. On an ideal night, I don’t watch TV and read a little before bed.

Caffeine:
I like to wait an hour until I drink coffee in the morning - it’s been helpful to let my body go through its natural waking cycle before I turbo-charge that puppy.

Walking:
Ideally, we like to take Lucydog for a walk in the morning. The combination of light exercise, connecting with Bri before we take off on our days, and hopefully getting some natural light set me up to feel more focused and productive throughout the day.

Running

I’m fourteen years late to the bandwagon, but I just picked up “Born to Run: A Hidden Tribe, Superathletes, and the Greatest Race the World Has Never Seen” by Christopher McDougall. I’ve always hiked, but running intimidated me. I’m short, stalky, and not built out like some slim-cut runner with an effortless stride. My body’s a lot better a doing things like eating shit on cheese wedges… But, there’s just something so enticing about being able to walk out your door and get some exercise. Check out my Strava to see what I’ve been up to.

DIY Projects

Racking up a project bill has its pros and cons, but getting to enjoy the fruits of your labor after a good DIY endeavor is priceless. Fortunately, my truck is reaching its half-life service period and it’s been keeping me busy. The other day I replaced some ball joints and did the front rotors and pads while I was in there. C’est la vie.

Climbing

Climbing has been a big part of my life, especially in the off-season, for a long time now. Like snowboarding, you can turn it into anything you want. It can be super relaxing, wildly adventurous, and anything in between. As for some inspo, Keenan Takahashi seems like the man and this video got me really stoked. I highly recommend trying out climbing. The best way to do it is to find your local climbing gym, get a day pass, rent some gear, and play around!
