We were rolling the dice on a mid-April backcountry shoot with Jared and friends, but luck was on our side with good snow and breaks of sun. The day we shot this was also the Jeff Keenan memorial at Seymour. As much as we wanted to be there, it felt right to be out exploring the backcountry—exactly what Jeff would have wanted.
We’d gone into this zone with one feature in mind: a natural wind lip that would hold up as temps climbed. Parker and Jared got to work, digging out the in-run and lining everything up. Jared wasted no time—front corked 5, crippler, back rodeo 7, even a nearly stomped front 12.Back at the cabin, I showed him this shot. He told me it was his favorite photo he’d ever gotten. Fittingly, it is now his and my first cover of Slush.—Mike
