You won Rookie of the Year right before this year's Uninvited Invitational. Was there any added confidence, or maybe added pressure, from that to perform?

Hard to tell. Maybe a little bit. People were definitely telling me before I came here, you're gonna bring home some money and shit. And I was like, I don't think I can get on the podium, but I did.

Were you surprised that you did?

Yeah, I think so. After the contest, I thought I could, maybe, but before coming here, I was like, this is too fucked. There are so many good riders and so many good young riders that I've never even seen, but I know they're so good. So yeah, I was surprised.

Most people know you as a street rider, but you definitely bossed up at the event this year. Is there anything you took from being a street rider that you brought into this?

Street riding has definitely influenced my trick choice. Also, I would say it has helped me with committing to a trick or being quick at just doing stuff and not trying it halfway. Just being more confident or knowing what I can do.

I guess on the opposite end of that, are there things you're kind of leaving in the streets that you're not wanting to, or can’t bring into a contest?

I guess just as a difference, there’s the moment, the pressure of not being able to choose when you do stuff, or just having to perform on time. I mean, you gotta do it in the street as well, but maybe less so.

Do the people get to you here, like the big crowd watching?

Yeah, that as well. But I think because this year the mountain wasn't open, so there were fewer people, so it was more comfortable to ride than last year. But I think I can push it away after a while. Like those first couple of tries are definitely like—I'm nervous, but then as soon as I ride it’s fine.

What did you film for this year?

I mostly filmed for a new Salomon project, Salomon two year that's gonna come out this fall. I went on two trips for that. And then I also went on another Vans trip; it's not official what's gonna happen with those clips yet.

How did it go?

It was a bit of an up and down. So on the first trip, Salomon trip, I dislocated my shoulder, and had to leave early and had to chill for like two weeks. Then I went straight on the next trip, didn't even go ride, so my confidence was a little lower than usual. That next trip was for Van, which actually went pretty well. Got some clips. It was fun, but it was kind of foreseeable. I had problems with my shoulder for a while. So I did dislocate it again. I had to chill for another two weeks. Then went back riding and so on. It happened like four times, and now I'm just really glad I could do the Uninvited still and didn't feel it much that week. I'm glad I could still ride. I need to get surgery in a month.

You were riding like it wasn't even a problem at the Uninvited. Could you feel it?

A little bit, but it went surprisingly well.

We talked Rookie of the Year a little at the beginning, but I just wanted to ask how that feels? Was that a surprise to you at all?

Yeah, that was a surprise. I was pretty hyped when I saw that I was nominated, but I didn't think I would get it. Then the next day I woke up, and it was like, holy shit, this is cool. It definitely felt rewarding.
